The modern traveller bent on pursuing a goal or dream can no longer be stopped with the enormous variety of transportations, equipments, campsites and organised backpacker camps to choose from. Backpacking has indeed become a major international recreation for people of all ages. Each year, millions of independent travellers attend organised camps or at least make use of camping facilities provided by national or local organisations. It is not uncommon for national and state parks to be converted to camping areas especially during summer. They provide the basic conveniences for a minimal fee, which are just ideal for backpackers. Facilities are usually provided by community organisations as well as industrial, labor, agricultural, civic and fraternal organisations. Sometimes individuals do the same to promote a cause, to do business, or simply to provide travellers a taste of the wilderness. Interest in this type of organised activity is promoted by voluntary associations and likewise, state and federal agencies. The threat of terrorism should not be a hindrance. There are various institutions that monitor and provide information on places that pose potential security risk to civilians. If your dream destination happens to be in the list of dangerous places, you can just postpone it for some other time and choose another place in the meantime. The important thing is not to give up due to temporary difficulties but to use the time to prepare yourself to realise your dreams of travelling. Entry Requirements Different countries have different entry requirements for travellers. Basic requirements include a valid passport and a visa. However, there are instances where some countries do not require visas as in the case of European Union (EU) nationals visiting the UK. A valid ID card would suffice in this case, although there are limits to the length of stay. There are also countries that require that a passport be valid for at least six months after your intended stay. A working holiday requires the related working permit for your stay to be legal. Care should be taken not to violate restrictions as this may result to deportation and possible refusal of return to the country. It is an offense to overstay your approved visa and to do so would mean being fined. Changes in policies and regulations do happen from time to time so it is best to consult the embassy of your chosen country in your locality to access updated information before embarking on any trip. Courtesy to local residents is a must when we visit a place. Respect for their country’s laws, however odd it may be for a visitor, should be paramount. The Backpacker Scene The increasing popularity of backpacking has ensured the acceptance of independent travellers in almost all parts of the world. The proliferation of offers with regards to accommodation, transportation, equipments and activities catering to backpackers is evidence that a certain distinct market exists in this group of people. The governments of a big number of countries, together with various organisations have taken the necessary steps to make their place more traveller-friendly. Their local residents have been quick to see the opportunity, thus the rise in privately run establishments related to the tourism industry. During this times that barriers, whether physical or cultural seems to have been relegated to the background, your choice of destination need not be limited to the usual ones. |
