Britain

Britain is a country in Northwestern Europe, which is officially known as the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland and is commonly called either Great Britain or the United Kingdom (UK). Although small in area, it is one of the most densely populated and highly industrialised countries in the world. It is made up of four principal divisions: England, Northern Ireland, Scotland and Wales, each essentially a country in their own right in terms of culture and history.

The climate prevailing in Britain is moderate with rainfalls common the whole year round. It gets worst during the winter but summer is reasonably warm but is generally short. The area that holds the focus of most travellers is England, as the bulk of the population can be found here. However, it is easy enough to reach other areas of the UK through the reliable train and bus services.

The main attraction in England is its capital — London. It is the commercial, industrial, cultural and political centre of UK as well as its chief port. Here you will find the National Gallery, the Big Ben and the Tower of London, among other long time attractions. You can also go to the Stonehenge in Salisbury (England’s most prominent circle site), the Living Historical Village in Gosport (a recreation of a 1642 village), or find your way to the best English pubs. England also has various bars, clubs and cinemas that would surely make up for a lively night life.

Scotland and Wales offer the most magnificent sceneries in this part of the world. Ireland is known for its relaxed culture and established traditions. Northern Ireland, however, is known to have occasional outbreaks of violence specifically in Belfast. Its capital — Dublin is known for being tourist-friendly.

One cost efficient way to travel around is to have a Rail Card which provides savings on train journey and some bus trips. Try to find the trail pass that is most suitable to your itinerary. Accommodation is quite easy to find even for those on a budget with the numerous youth hostels, inns and bed and breakfasts in the area.

For travellers intending to make this a working holiday, employment is available through volunteering programs, work abroad programs and even seasonal or casual work, subject of course to existing regulations. UK has well equipped facilities and highly skilled staff for health care. No special precautions are recommended beyond that which you normally do.
