Germany

Germany is a country in North-Central Europe and is one of the most influential countries in the EU. It has become a leading power in Europe as well with the reunification of East and West Germany. The term “Germany” has meant different things at different periods due to the changes in the territorial composition it went through. Much of its history includes the two world wars but Germany has emerged a country with a very high standard of life, very cosmopolitan and up to date especially with its nightlife activities.

The country is advantageously located in terms of climate. The winters are relatively mild, with the summers warm but not hot. Just take sensible clothes such as sweater or raincoat at all times as rain is known to occur at anytime during the year. The country’s most important river — the Rhine is a commercial asset to the entire continent due to the load of shipping it carries.

Berlin, the capital of Germany will never fail to make your visit worthwhile. Best explored on foot, it boasts of its preserved architecture and modern renovations that has greatly helped in its present status as a strong unified capital. It also offers the best nightlife and restaurants in the country. Munich is where you can find the Deutches Museum which is the largest science and technology expo in the world. Other must-see destinations are the Garten (one of Europe’s largest city parks) and Lubeck which is a well restored medieval town included in the UNESCO’s world heritage list.

Train travel in Germany is quite efficient and comfortable but rather expensive. There are budget deals that can enable you to bring down your travel costs. The country’s bus network is quite extensive and is relatively cheaper than trains for long distances. Central bus stations are usually located near train stations.

Accommodation in Germany presents itself through a wide selection of hotels, pensions, hostels, bed and breakfasts. Employment may come in the form of au pairing, teaching English, jobs in hotels and restaurants and agricultural work. A knowledge of the German language works to your advantage and working alongside the local residents could greatly improve your linguistic skills. There should not be any major healthcare concerns as Germany has an extremely good health service.
