Barcelona

Spain is one of the world's celebrated countries, and Barcelona shines with renown, full of ancient history, cultural delights, and architectural wonders, thanks to the work of famous architect Antoni Gaudi. From eating out to getting around, the city sparkles with entertainment and vivacity.

Getting Around

There are public buses that are available through the city's major thoroughfares and two underground trains. Cabs are also available for hire. For a more panoramic view of the city, take a cable car from the mountain of Montjuic and marvel over sights such as the Olympic Ring and the Park of Attractions.

Things to See

Although some of the city's major architectural gems have entrance fees, there's no fee against looking from the outside. La Sagrada Familia, one of Gaudi's unfinished works, is a testament to his soaring vision and remains one of the most visited places in Spain. Take a walk through the Barri Gotic, Barcelona's old aristcratic city, and peek at Roman ruins. La Rambla, known as one of Europe's bustling streets, offers everything from stalls and shops to street magicians.

Where to Stay

Hostels are widely available in Barcelona and are considered clean and decent. If you plan on travelling a lot during your stay, choose a hostel that is near transportation.

TIP

Instead of buying a single bus pass for €1.15, get a T-10 (a ticket for 10 journeys) that will cost €6.30. During the summer, the Bus Turistic passes through 20 of Barcelona's most popular spots; when you purchase the tickets, you also gain discounts to some attractions.
