Paris

Paris can never be too much for the imagination; it has solidified its reputation for culture, the arts, and zest for living around the world. The city shines with class, vigor, and an energy that is all its own, despite its revolutionary past. Explore the city's crevices and spaces and discover a different side of the City of Lights, redolent of history and passion. More than just the city of lovers, Paris has something in store for every traveller.

Getting Around

Paris is the second-largest city in Europe; it is not easy to traverse on foot. Many Parisians get around through the Metro (integrated with the train system) which operates throughout the city. Public buses are also available from early morning to midnight.

Things to See

There is no lack of famous landmarks in Paris. The Eiffel Tower, of course, is a must-see, as with the Louvre and the Arc de Triomphe (conveniently located walking distance to each other). Take a look at Notre Dame's Gothic architecture and structure and go for an idyllic boat ride along the River Seine. Revel in the past of the infamous Moulin Rouge. For a taste of normal Parisian life, sit in a cafe along a busy thoroughfare and soak in local culture.

Where to Stay

Hostels in Paris are many and legion. For youth hostels, contact the French Youth Hostels Federation. You may also consider state-regulated bed and breakfasts (gites de france) which are decent and inexpensive.

TIPS

Get a Metro 10-ticket pass for a little over €8; a single ticket costs over €1.

Every first Sunday of the month, Paris's major museums offer free entrance and admission. Tour the Louvre, the Musee d'Orsay, and others for free!
