Prague

Not many European cities hold the charm of Prague; in spite of the Iron Curtain in its past, the city has managed to regain its old world splendour and infuse new energy within its surroundings and in its people. Step into the Stare Mesto, the city's old quarter, and marvel at its well-preserved buildings and medieval architecture. Walk into Nove Mesto, the city's newer area, and browse through modern shops and stalls. Their nightlife is quite exciting as well. Prague is a 600 year-old city; it holds many treasures for the observant traveller.

Getting Around

Prague is serviced by the Metro, trams, public buses, and taxicabs and the Dopravni Podnik provides all these. Tickets for transportation can be bought practically anywhere. The Metro is highly efficient, arriving at stations every four minutes. The trams and the public buses are available from five in the morning until 12 midnight. Taxis can be either caught at taxi stands or booked by phone.

Things to See

While in the Stare Mesto, walk by the Staromestske Namesti (Old Town Square) and gaze at the town's famous astronomical clock. The attraction is free, along with Prazsky hrad (Prague Castle), a thousand year-old structure that is prime among the city's architectural jewels.

Where to Stay

Prague is a popular city with backpackers, hence there are a lot of hostels in the area. A good place to start looking for hostels is the Czech Youth Hostel Network, which offers accommodation to foreign students and clients.
