Rome

As a city that defined much of the world during its peak, Rome is storied and ancient, a glimpse into just how splendid it was and is to be a Roman citizen. Majestic architecture, rich history, and lively people are just glimpses into a multi-dimensioned city that is still one of the world’s best and brightest.

Getting Around

Rome’s Center Storico (historical center) is quite easy to manage by foot, and many of the city’s main attractions are within walking distance, such as the Colosseum and the Pantheon.

Rome has a metro system that stops at some of the city’s most visited attractions. You must buy a ticket before riding (as with the bus), as a heavy fine is imposed otherwise. Tickets can be bought at snack stands and vending machines.

You can also travel by bus, which runs from 6 am to 12 midnight.

Things to See

It may be near-impossible to squeeze in all the breathtaking sights that Rome has to offer on a short visit, but you can’t blame yourself for trying! Fortunately, some major sights are conveniently located near one another, especially at the Center Storico. Other sights worth looking at include the Sistine Chapel, the Catacombs, the Vatican, Trevi Fountain, and St. Peter’s Basilica.

Things to Do

Rome is a classy city, and that means when you’re going out, dress up a little bit. The hottest place for nightclubs and bars is the Testaccio district, and you can check out other locations as Via della Pace and Campo dei Fiori.

Where to Stay

Rome is home to a number of highly-rated hostels. Try out the Yellow Hostel which offers dorms that smoking and nonsmoking dorms and those that have private baths and air-conditioning. Nonsmoking dorms start at $30.
